 Which Language Learning Method Suits You?

Which language to learn?Learning foreign languages refers to the acquisition of a language aside from one’s native language. Being able to speak more than a single language is very useful and beneficial for many purposes.

The following are many methods in learning languages, which one do you think suits you?

  • Learning in language schools. Language schools offer many different types of language courses either one-to-one, group, or combined courses. Language schools also use various language learning approaches such as the communicative, direct, or vocabulary-based approaches. You will also have a chance to interact with language learners like you!

  • Audio Language Materials. Audio materials such as CDs, tapes, podcasts, and more are useful in learning languages because they can help you get introduced to the sounds of your target language. Audio materials will help you in developing your listening and speaking skills in the language; they are also very portable and accessible, you have all the time in the world to choose when you would listen to them. The only disadvantage with audio materials is that you might not develop the other language skills if you only use this method.

  • Reading Language Materials. Reading materials such as articles, magazines, books, newspapers and a lot more are very helpful in enhancing your reading and writing skills in your target language. Books and magazines are very rich resources of authentic material and they can be very useful in developing vocabulary and grammar abilities since some have interactive exercises where you can use your language knowledge. Information about culture, history and the origins of the language can also be found in reading materials that is why it is helpful to take account of them.

  • Language Software. There are many kinds of language software available as CD-ROMs or online programs and you can use them effectively to learn foreign languages! Software stores sell some of these language programs and some libraries lend out CD-ROMs, other materials are available for download from the internet. Learning languages in this method allows you to level up at your own pace and at your own time.

  • Language Immersion. Language immersion requires you, the language learner, to be immersed in a community or environment where your target language is the native language of the community. This language learning method may require you to travel abroad so that you can be fully immersed in your target language. This gives you the opportunity to learn about the place of origin of the language, its people, culture, and history.
