MOST Hollywood movies need the services of an English dialogue coach because there are a lot of movies which are cast with non-English speaking actors and actresses in exceptional roles of course. But even Australian actors need refining if they want to play the role of an American. Otherwise, Mel Gibson and Russell Crowe will sound ridiculously like Steve Irwin if it weren’t for their American rhotic accent. On the other hand, if you are a totally American actor like Tom Hanks who must play the part of someone from Wales or even from any state in New England, then you need to polish your non-rhotic accent. But let’s take a look at some of the movies which employ non-English speaking actors and actresses who need the services of an English dialogue coach.

By the way, it’s so easy to become an English dialogue coach. All you need to have is a master’s degree in English of course and you’re on your way to success. For example, in the dragon movie D-War, most of the actors and actresses come from South Korea. Thus, they need to polish their English on the set. And do you know that most of the actors and actresses that have been a part of D-War have trained their English skills in the Philippines because short term English education there is relatively cheaper than in their home country. They later on went to Los Angeles to film D-War.

Speaking of the Philippines, there’s a current Hollywood production there involving Cambodian and Filipino actors and actresses who need to dub their lines in English. Deep Gold is a story of the Yamashita treasure hunt. One of the few films currently released is The Kite Runner. The cast of The Kite Runner is composed mostly of Afghan actors and actresses who need to dub their lines in English a few times. However, the movie is expected to grab the Best Foreign Language Film this year at the Oscars because most of its dialogue is in Dari. It really is a tearjerking film since it chronicles the lives of two Afghan boys playing kites discreetly during the Taliban regime. They have to play their summer hobby in secret for fear of Taliban repression. Another movie set to have an explosive release early this year is topbilled by Star Wars kid Hayden Christensen this time as Jumper. Some of the scenes in Jumper are set in Italy and Italian actors and actresses who need to dub their lines in English receive guidance from an English dialogue coach. One other Hollywood movie which will be released soon but has a foreign setting is Vantage Point. Vantage Point stars Matthew Fox of Lost as a villain so everybody is looking forward seeing this movie.
